Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, has commended Chairmen of local government councils in the state for their efforts towards delivery of democratic dividends.
He gave the commendation on Friday while commissioning Ebu-Owa Modern Motor Park/1km Upper Efeizomor/Hon. Hero Road project in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State.
According to him, “our Local Government Council Chairmen are performing their roles of making our people, people in our communities to feel the impact of good governance.”
He specifically thanked the Chairman of Ika North-East Local Government Council, Hon Monday Odigwe for executing people-oriented projects, noting that the Motor Park will boost security for both drivers and commutters.
Deputy Governor Onyeme stated that with the motor park, passengers’ lost items could easily be traced, commutters movement would be easier and that the provision of toilet facilities would also, check open defecation with its attendant health benefits.
He thanked Deltans “for supporting the administration of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori whose MORE Agenda is trickling down to what we are witnessing today.
“I urge users of these facilities to ensure that they are protected and maintained.’
Chairman, Ika North East Local Government Council, Hon. Monday Odigwe, in his address, noted that Ebu-Owa Modern Motor Park is a commitment to improve transportation infrastructure in Ika North-East.
He said that the council identified the need for a safe, organized, and hygienic space for both transporters and commuters.
“This park is equipped with modern facilities, including toilet units to help combat open defecation and promote public health because development is not complete without cleanliness and dignity.” Hon. Odigwe stated.
The Secretary, National Union of Road Transport Workers, Ika North East Branch A, Comrade Ayetim Uche expressed their appreciation to the council chairman for the construction of the model motor park.
He noted that the motor park will boost economic activities, create jobs and increase revenue for traders and transporters.
Chairman Landlord Idumu-Ihierinmasuo Association, Elder Godwin Igborgbor, expressed appreciation to the council chairman for the road saying it was a mile stone in community development.
He said that the road will enhance economic development in the area and expressed their loyalty to the local government and the State Governor .
Some of those who witnessed the exercise include the immediate past Governor of Delta State, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, CON, legislators, members of the Delta State Executive Council, traditional rulers, among others.
