DELTA State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, has called on Deltans to live in peace to ensure speedy development of their communities.

Speaking on Wednesday in Asaba when Chiefs from Abbi Community in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State, paid him a courtesy visit, the deputy governor, stated that nobody or community in the state has the right to be lawless.

“It is very very important that we maintain peace and order in our communities; that is the only way that we can get the dividends of democracy.

“We cannot be making trouble, fighting ourselves and expect government to bring good things to our communities.

“Recently we heard stories about Abbi and Emu communities having issues to the extent that people started threatening themselves; we heard that the people of Emu asked the people of Abbi to leave their community and the people of Abbi in turn, asked the people of Emu to vacate their community, in this modern day?

“I don’t know what gave people the impression that you can just wake up from sleep and ask others to move away from your community, this is modern society and nobody has such rights to give an ultimatum to others to vacate their community.

“So, a lot depends on the chiefs of the communities to ensure amicable resolution of issues without anyone going against the law.

“The people of Abbi and Emu are brothers, we can resolve whatever differences without threat to others,” Onyeme said.

He noted that the people of Ndokwa are generally peaceful and urged the people to embrace positive actions rather than imbibing negative culture.

The deputy governor thanked the people of Abbi for their support and assured them that the state government would look into their requests for necessary social amenities.

Earlier, the Abbi community in an address read by Chief Michael Udi, said the courtesy visit was to congratulate the governor and his deputy on their electoral victory and to intimate Onyeme about the need of their community.

He expressed confidence that the Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration would deliver the goodies of democracy to all Deltans and the people of Abbi in particular.

Present during the visit were the member representing Ndokwa West constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Charles Emetulu, the Commissioner for Urban Renewal, Hon. Michael Anoka, the Deputy Chief of Staff, Government Houses, Sir Christopher Osakwe and others.
