Political groups and individuals have warned a socio-political group, Light Up Ndokwa, to desist from engaging in further actions aimed at tarnishing the image of the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Media, Comrade Fidelis Egugbo.
The Light Up Ndokwa group, in an SMS in circulation had said, “Egugbo Fidelis is backing Ndokwa 16 years darkness and even calling the masses illiterate. His number, (withheld). Call him and confirm what he said. LUNA.”
Ndokwa Political Action Committee, Concerned Ndokwa Citizens Against Falsehood and individuals like Chief Willie Ishima, among several others, have reacted to the SMS warning that what the Light Up Ndokwa group was circulating amounted to Cyber bullying, raising false alarm with the hope of inciting the public against Comrade Egugbo and putting the SSA at risk.
According to a statement jointly signed by Ndokwa Political Action Committee and Concerned Ndokwa Citizens Against Falsehood, which was circulated by Mr Adigun Sunday, the allegations against Egugbo are false and what the Light Up Ndokwa group is doing against the SSA amounts to character assassination.
The statement reads:
Response to the Malicious SMS Circulated by Light Up Ndokwa Association (LUNA)
“Our attention has been drawn to an irresponsible SMS being circulated by a group identifying itself as Light Up Ndokwa Association (LUNA), in which the name and personal phone number of Fidelis Egugbo were maliciously published.
“We strongly condemn this act for the following reasons:
1. Baseless Allegations: The claims that Egugbo Fidelis supports Ndokwa’s 16+ years of darkness and insulted the masses are completely false and unfounded. He has consistently been an advocate for light, equity, and development in Ndokwa land.
2. Character Assassination: Circulating such falsehoods is a deliberate attempt to tarnish his reputation. This does not in any way contribute to the struggle for electricity in Ndokwa; instead, it diverts attention from the real issues.
3. Irresponsible Exposure of Personal Information: Publicly sharing his personal phone number is highly uncalled for, dangerous, and a violation of his right to privacy. This reckless action exposes him to harassment and shows the desperation of those behind the smear campaign.
The people of Ndokwa deserve sincerity, unity, and genuine advocacy for development not propaganda, lies, and character attacks. We call on members of the public to disregard the content of that message and focus on holding the right authorities accountable for our 16+ years of neglect in power supply.
This is the time to unite for the progress of Ndokwa, not to destroy the character of individuals working for her growth.
Signed,
Ndokwa Political Action Committee
&
Concerned Ndokwa Citizens Against Falsehood.”
Also, Mr Ishima in his reaction, said, “Light Up Ndokwa is a bunch of desperados with ulterior motives.
“Their attack on the laudable scholarship scheme has sold them out.
“They have failed already.”
Reacting to the development, Comrade Egugbo said, “this SMS confirms the strange calls that I have been receiving from people that I have never met and some concerned relations; there are laws in Nigeria and some of the members of Light Up Ndokwa are known by the law enforcement agencies.
“Few days ago, they came out to attack the laudable scholarship programme of the Monday Onyeme Foundation, a brainchild of the scholarly-minded Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, which made me to raise some questions about the credibility of the leadership of the association and the motives behind its establishment because no sane person or well-intentioned group will condemn a scholarship programme that has assisted undergraduates for more than nine years.
“In that my statement, I requested to know if the Secretary of Light Up Ndokwa, Mr. Endurance McGregor Erhunmwunse, is an Ndokwa man because that name sounds foreign to Deltans in general.
“I also asked if the association was formed as a political tool by failed politicians to attack government and if it is used as a platform by the group to extort money from Ndokwa people in particular as champions of the group are always begging members of the public to subscribe to their social media platforms.
“Because of their attack on a worthy programme such as scholarship, I requested to know the educational background of the leadership of Light Up Ndokwa and surprisingly what they are doing is to mobilize their members and the public against me instead of answering the questions that I raised.
“They are not faceless, I will consult widely and appropriate actions will be taken for the benefits of all,” Egugbo who is also, the Chief Press Secretary to Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme said.
