POP star, Tiwa Savage, who recently revealed that she was being blackmailed over a sex tape of herself and her partner, has shared how it was leaked.

She said the video was accidentally posted on Snapchat by her lover who deleted it after he realised his error but it had already been downloaded by a stalker.

Speaking in an interview with American OAP, Angie Martinez of Power 105.1, the singer absolved her lover and other people close to her of deliberately leaking the video.

She said, “I am not going to call it a sex tape but it’s a tape between me and the person I am dating right now…It is not from someone working closely with me. What happened is that the person did it on Snap and he posted it by accident, but he quickly deleted it.

”However, someone got it before he could delete it. It is a very short video, but it is me. It is going to be out there and I can just imagine the memes. I just found out yesterday. I could not sleep last night.”

Savage, 41, revealed that the incident happened last month and that the person tried extorting money from her but that she was not going to allow anyone to blackmail her “for doing something that is natural.”

“I am that crazy I could put it out myself – you are not making any money off me,” she said.

The singer also said she tried to manage the situation to no avail. She said, ”We tried to stall them, but I later decided that I am going to own the narrative. I am not ashamed of it; this is someone I am dating; I am not cheating, neither is he. We are grownups.

”I cannot believe this is happening to me. I feel for my fans because they will have to keep defending me. I can switch off my phone or have someone run my account so I do not see that, but my fans will feel the need to protect me. I will like my fans to ignore it.”

Savage disclosed that the blackmailer sent the sex video of herself and her current partner to her team, demanding money.

The singer, who would be releasing the video of her song “Somebody’s Son” featuring American singer Brandy, on Tuesday, also encouraged her fans who would like to protect her and defend her to ‘let it go.”

Savage also disclosed that she has over 13 million followers and she shares a good relationship with her fans.

The artiste is not the first Nigerian celebrity to be blackmailed over nude images.

In April 2020, Waka music originator, Salawa Abeni, released her nude pictures after being threatened by a blackmailer.

The 59-year-old music legend accused him of threatening to tarnish her image and destroy her career of over 45 years.

She, however, decided to share her nude pictures on Instagram and screenshots of her chat with the blackmailer so that she could be left alone.

Her blackmailer, Olufowoke Oladunjoye Emmanuel, a 19-year-old National Diploma holder of Yaba College of Technology, Lagos was nabbed in June 2020.

The suspect, a resident of Brentfield Avenue, Peace Estate, Magboro, Ogun State, was picked up by the Decoy Team of Rapid Response Squad after three days of monitoring him.

Also in April 2020, media girl, Toke Makinwa, dared blackmailers who threatened to publish her nude pictures.

Makinwa rather in a post on her Instagram page, released one of the photographs, with a long note addressed to her blackmailers.

Revenge porn or non-consensual pornography – circulation of intimate images or videos of someone has become an increasing problem, especially for young women in many parts of the world.

In Nigeria, victims are protected by a 2015 cyber-crime act that made it an offense with up to three years in jail, and two years ago, a man was convicted for sharing photos of his lover on Facebook.

Already, Tunji Ibrahim Balogun better known as Teebillz, the ex-husband of embattled Tiwa Savage, has taken down all the pictures of himself with his son, Jamil.

He also took down other images where he appeared with his children on his verified Instagram page.

This is coming amid the leaked sex tape of his estranged lover which has gone viral on social media.

Checks by The Nation shows that he had deleted several pictures with only nine posts left.

In one of the now-deleted posts on Instagram, when Tiwa revealed she was being blackmailed Teebillz however said: “All I know is a great mother for my mini me….Let that sink in your head b’4 u msg me on some BS!

“Parents are humans too….I be on my BS too but that don’t change my Great father figure”.

The video has continued to generate widespread reactions on several social media platforms.

The ‘Somebody’s son’ crooner had already owned up to the trending video.
