Team Nigeria In Luanda For 4th Africa Youth Games

A 64-man team is currently representing Nigeria at the 4th Africa Youth Games in Luanda, Angola.

Team Nigeria is participating in 13 of the 33 sports being offered at the event.

According to the President, Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Engr. Habu Ahmed Gumel, the competition is a qualifying event for the first Olympic Youth Games, scheduled to be hosted in Africa by Senegal next year, .

Gumel is also the Treasurer-General of the Association of the National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), the official owners of the Africa Youth Games.

Team Nigeria is competing in Athletics,
Badminton, Beach Volleyball,
Boxing and Cycling.

Team Nigeria is also fielding athletes in Golf, Judo, Swimming, Taekwondo, Table Tennis, Tennis, Weightlifting, and Wrestling.

The Games are taking place in Angola from Dec. 10 to Dec. 20, 2025.

The country’s contingent was announced at the end of the Delegation Registration Meeting (DRM) led by Nigeria’s Chef de Mission/Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mr Bukola Olopade.

The events are spread across six cities in Angola under a local Organising Committee, COJA.

The cities are: Luanda, Benguela, Lubango, Huambo, Moçâmedes, and Caxito.

The leader of the Federal Government’s delegation, Mallam Dikko, had since arrived in Luanda ahead of the official opening ceremonies, billed for Dec. 13.

His arrival is expected to boost Team Nigeria’s morale at the Games.
