Why I Will Not Contest For House Of Reps Seat In 2027 – Okolugbo

Address to the Good People of Ndokwa Nation

Today, I address my good people of Ndokwa Nation.  I have been inundated with several calls urging me to offer myself to represent the Ndokwa Nation in the House of Representatives come 2027. I am most humbled by your trust and belief in my capacity to lead the charge for our people in the Green Chambers.

When I first offered myself to serve as your representative in 2003, I had just turned thirty years of age…politically naive and unmarried, yet burning with a zeal to serve. I eventually came second in the general elections of that year. That experience became a turning point for me. As I traversed the thirty wards of our nation, I was confronted with the harsh reality of a people living in abject squalor and poverty.

A nation rich in God-given resources, yet so far behind. I remember the cry of a woman at Okpai; the little boy who saw a car for the first time as I crossed the wooden bridge to Abala; the old man at Emu who had not seen electricity in years; the community of Umuebu with no roads to speak of. These memories never left me.

A lot has changed since then, but it is not yet uhuru in Ndokwa. We remain in dire need of federal presence, especially considering the significant quota we contribute to the national treasury.

I subsequently served as a Commissioner in DESOPADEC, representing part of Ndokwa West and the entirety of Ukwuani. My record speaks for itself over 90 completed projects spanning schools, markets, health centres, hospitals, water projects, street lights, and the provision of tricycles. To this day, you will still find buses and over ten brand new vehicles I procured for the Police, hospitals, cultural associations, and host communities still in active service.

That drive for development never left me.
I gave further expression to this vision through private investment building the Obiaruku Mall, which today houses ten flats, an events hall, a swimming pool, a hotel, and a soon-to-be-completed centre approved by JAMB as an examination centre. I lived among you as a Commissioner and I continue to live among you whenever I am in Delta owning no land in Warri or Asaba because Ndokwa is home.

My appointment as Consultant and Adviser on Communications and Strategy to the President of the 10th Senate deepened my understanding of the workings of the National Assembly. I gained first-hand knowledge of legislative procedures, bills, and key decision-making processes, while also serving as his image maker and strategist. That federal access enabled me to attract critical interventions including a major road rehabilitation project from Abraka to Obiaruku, street light installations, and transformer projects to restore electricity to communities in Ndokwa that had languished in darkness for far too long.

More recently, we secured modern pavilion projects worth over three billion Naira for Ndokwa West and Ukwuani from the NDDC all part of a deliberate effort to place our nation where it rightly belongs in the scheme of things.

It is against this backdrop that I have arrived at a difficult decision. I will not be heeding your call to contest in 2027. I am sincerely sorry to those of you who have believed in me and my ability to represent you. Your faith has meant more than words can express. After extensive consultations with many of our leaders,

I have chosen to allow the unwritten zoning arrangement currently being observed to prevail. The 2nd day of May 2026 marks the closing date for the purchase of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms in our party. I wish to sincerely thank our Deputy Governor and Leader of Ndokwa Nation in the Delta State Government, Sir Monday Onyeme, for the several engagements we had, some running deep into the early hours of the morning. And to the many members of my support base who believed in me without reservation I am deeply grateful.

The Ndokwa Nation’s best days are ahead. I remain committed to her progress in every way I can.
God bless the Ndokwa Nation and Delta State.

Sir Kenny Ekenechukwu Okolugbo
