THE Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on Agriculture Matters, Hon. Aneke Ifemeni has said the survival of Nigeria is dependent on the level of the country’s investment in agriculture.
Speaking at his 61st birthday celebration, Ifemeni observed that agriculture could save the country from imminent recession as a result of the multiplier effects of COVID-19 pandemic.
“The recent inauguration of tractors to encourage mechanised farming in Delta by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa was a clear evidence that the governor is committed to agriculture.
“We must see agriculture as our best bet, especially when we can make it to become remunerable to the farmers and equitable to the consumers,” the former Majority Leader of the Delta State House of Assembly said, adding, “our dependency on petroleum-based economy has failed and it will continue to fail us if we do not seek solace in agriculture now.”
He opined that if Nigeria and Delta do not invest in agriculture as a social investment, and make farmers to be more enthusiastic to go to the farms, food security will be threatened.
