AS part of efforts at supporting victims of the Agbor gas explosion, which occurred on January 22, 2021, the Delta State Government has given out cheques to victims of the incident to cushion their suffering.

The Secretary to the Delta State Government (SSG), Chief Patrick Ukah, presented the cheques to the victims in his office in Asaba, the state capital, on behalf of the state government.

The SSG said that the gesture was one of the efforts of the state government at alleviating the plights of the victims.

“Our gathering today is simply to show government’s empathy to the situation of the families of the bereaved,” he added.

Chief Ukah commended  the Onu Ika Gas Explosion Committee for the efforts they made in raising over N20 million naira for the victims as initial support after the gas plant explosion, acknowledging that they had lived up to their ideology.

The SSG assured residents of the state that government was looking into the report from the committee which was set up to find out the cause of the explosion and would implement its recommendations to ensure that there was no reoccurrence of such disaster in the state.

On behalf of the victims, the leader of the delegation, Elder Dan Usifo, appreciated the kind gesture of the state government .

Elder Usifo recalled that the state Governor, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa, and his entourage went physically to see what happened immediately the incident occurred and since then government had not relented in providing support for the victims and their families.
