DUE to the increase in number of the novel Coronavirus cases in Delta State and other parts of the country, Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, Hon. Jite Brown has called on residents of the area to always observe all precautionary measures in order to checkmate community transmission of the virus.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Udu Wednesday, the chairman noted that the level of infection was on the rise due to the lackadaisical attitude of people who erroneously believe that the pandemic was a scam.

He appealed to residents of the local government to avoid large gathering of people especially in burials, marriages, markets, churches etc, so as to curb the spread of the disease.

“The virus has entered community transmission stage because of the failure of people to observe prescribed protocols by NCDC such as wearing of face mask in public places, physical distancing, regular hand washing with running water and soap as well as the use of sanitisers among other measures to keep the virus in check.”

According to him, market women and members of the public must wear face mask and observe all NCDC’s guidelines.

The Udu Council Boss noted that churches were not left out of the Operation Wear Your Face Mask order, adding that churches with large congregations should divide their services into two to three services in order for social distancing to be properly observed among members.

He stressed that he has advised leaders in the transport sector to adhere strictly to the directives of the state government.

“I want to plead with Udu people to adhere strictly to the laid down protocols for managing the transmission of the disease, it can affect anybody irrespective of age, position or class, however, the elderly and people with underlined health cases are more at risk of the virus,” Jite added.
