Asaba Specialist Hospital has commenced Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) services with the installation of a state-of-the-art Siemens 1.5 Tesla helium-free MRI machine, becoming the first health facility in Nigeria to deploy the cutting-edge technology.

The development was announced in a statement issued by the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Peace Ighosewe, who described the milestone as a major boost to healthcare delivery in Delta State.
She expressed appreciation to the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, for what she described as a visionary investment in the health sector, noting that the acquisition reflects the administration’s commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare.
According to the statement, the hospital marked the commencement of the MRI services by offering free MRI scans to patients for two days, with the initiative ending on Friday. More than 10 patients benefitted from the exercise.
Dr. Ighosewe said the installation of the advanced diagnostic equipment would significantly improve access to specialised medical imaging, reduce the burden of travelling outside Delta State for MRI investigations and facilitate faster, more accurate diagnosis and treatment of patients.
She noted that the Siemens 1.5 Tesla helium-free MRI system represents a significant advancement in medical imaging technology and is expected to strengthen diagnostic capabilities at the hospital.
The Chief Medical Director reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to providing accessible, modern and patient-centred healthcare services, adding that the initiative aligns with Governor Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E. Agenda aimed at improving critical sectors, including healthcare.
She assured residents that the hospital would continue to leverage modern technology and skilled personnel to enhance healthcare outcomes and deliver quality medical services to the people of Delta State.
