Frontline positive reorientation group, the Foundation for the Correction of Moral Decadence (FCMD), on Thursday, held a highly successful seminar for personnel of the Lagos State Police Command.
The high brow event was held at the Police Officers Mess , and was attended by the echelon of the command following the approval by police authorities.
The event, part of the larger itinerary of the FCMD to public institutions across the country, attracted a massive turnout of participants.
Addressing the seminarians,the Chairman and arrowhead of FCMD, Dr. Joseph Danley, said the attitudinal change seminars represented his group’s efforts to help engender a positive new public and private attitude among Nigerians in order to generate a new set of virtues upon which to peg individual and collective development among the citizens.
He said that Nigeria was blessed with a plethora of natural resources but lamented that poor attitude of many Nigerians had stalled the growth and development of the country and the citizenry.
He held that as the single most crucial agent of development, man had the ability to determine the pace and quality of the development of his society, based on his values which influence his actions and inactions.
Dr. Danley said that the difference between advanced societies and the developing ones could largely be found in the attitudes of their people, anchored on their values.
A properly oriented people, he said, are more likely to take patriotic and selfless actions in the protection of public interest than those with improper orientation arising from wrong values.
Consistent deliberate wrong actions and inactions on the part of the citizens of a country impair the tempo and quality of its development, he said.
He stressed the need for reorientation and the moral rearmament of Nigerians , especially public officers whose actions largely help in defining national values and ethos.
The FCMD boss said the necessity for value reorientation was particularly compelling for officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) given the fact that they carry the enforcement capacity of the executive arm of the government, and its personnel are the most ubiquitous and publicly visible face of the government and its security architecture.
He urged the officers and men of the NPF to be conscious of their place and role in the society which they protect round -the- clock.
Particularly, he pleaded with them to be courteous, morally upright, socially and professionally responsible and diligent at their duty posts.
Dr. Danley said since the policemen are the mirror through which ordinary citizens see the government, the actions of its officers and men must be guided by the highest standards of professional efficiency, moral rectitude, social responsibility and total deference to public interest at all times.
He acknowledged the herculean role of the NPF in national security, and urged its personnel to be time conscious, demonstrate competence, humility and respect for due process, as well as morality.
He also encouraged them to consistently strive for excellent relations with the civil society and other segments of the society whose cooperation , he added, is crucial to the success of the police.
The event is the latest in the series of seminars mounted by the FCMD, which is a leading interest in efforts to reorientate and morally rearm the Nigerian society.
