THE Priest in charge, Catholic Church of the Ascension, Rev. Fr. Hilary Ibegbulem, has called on Christians not despair as they have a Saviour in Jesus Christ.

Fr. Ibegbulem, made the call while delivering a Homily on Sunday morning at the Catholic Church of the Ascension, Asaba.

He observed that first Sunday of the year, which is, second Sunday after Christmas, is the celebration of the feast of Epiphany which gives confidence to Christians that they have a Saviour in Jesus Christ.

“This is also the second Sunday after Christmas and every second Sunday after Christmas is the feast of the Epiphany of the Lord.

“Epiphany means manifestation or revelation of the Lord as the light and saviour of the world.

“There are many events in the Bible where Jesus was revealed to us; Jesus is our Saviour; God gave us a Saviour in Jesus Christ.

“Recognising Jesus as our Saviour will make us know how to relate with Him.

“The three wise men saw the light and followed the light; Jesus is the light of the world and the gifts given to Jesus Christ by the three wise men were symbolic – by offering Jesus Christ gold, it signifies that Jesus is the King; they also offered Him frankincense which symbolises that Jesus is a Priest and the myrrh symbolises the death of Jesus Christ.

“The high point of the feast of Epiphany of the Lord is that, Jesus Christ came for everybody; He came as our Saviour to save the whole world.

“He came to save us from every situation and we should call upon Him when we are in danger; when we run into trouble, let us remember that we have a Saviour.

“No matter the circumstance, we should look up to Jesus, we should not despair because we have a Saviour, so, let us learn how to relate with Him.

The celebration of the Holy Mass which was also attended by Rev. Fr. Victor Ijeh, featured thanksgiving by the parishioners.
