A Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. Victor Ijeh, has admonished Christians to prepare for eternity by taking stock of their activities on earth.
Delivering a Homily on Sunday morning at the Catholic Church of the Ascension, Asaba, Delta State, Fr. Ijeh stated that no one will live forever in this world and as such, people should prepare for where they will spend eternity.
According him, Jesus Christ made it clear that He had gone to prepare a place for those who believe.
He said, “prepare for eternity; take stock and see how you are living your life; engage in soul searching to know if you are doing the right thing and if you are not getting it right, change for good.
“It is certain that one day, you will leave this world, time and date we don’t know because He said, you are dust and unto dust, you shall return, so, why do you engage in activities that do not glorify God?
“What are we fighting for? This world is not our own for what will it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul?
“We cannot live forever, so, prepare for eternity; death will come any time, that is why the Psalmist said, Lord, teach us to number our days…
“After death comes judgement, so, if you live your life well, you will go to heaven.
“My dear brothers and sisters, let us prepare ourselves for the last day; if death comes now, are we ready for it?
“Self examination is important- if death comes, am I ready for eternity? Am I living a good life?
“Repent, go and reconcile yourself with God and your neighbour; and trust in the promise of God that there is a place that is prepared for you in heaven if you are living a good life.
“Note that if you do not prepare for eternity, you will regret for eternity.”
The Holy Mass featured special thanksgiving by individuals and groups.
