As part of activities to commemorate International Literacy Day , Asaba First Big Heart Lions Club , District 404A4, Region 10, Nigeria, has distributed school uniforms, sport wears and sandals to indigent pupils as well as writing materials to all the pupils of Umegbali Primary School, Okpanam. Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Speaking to journalists, the President of Asaba First Big Heart Lions Club, Lion Mary Ngozi Nobea, NLCF said that the objective of Lion Club was to put smiles on the faces of the less privilege in the society, especially children that do not have money to buy certain educational materials.
Nobea stated that Lion Club was into humanitarian services, adding that the Club decided to identify with the pupils so as to enable them learn effectively.
She said that her Lion Club built a toilet facility and provided borehole for Umegbali Primary School, stressing that the Club would soon commence the renovation of a toilet facility in the school.
The Asaba First Big Heart Lion Club President also stated the Club carried out environmental project in the school, just as she disclosed that the Club organized cancer awareness campaign at Mgbala Model Primary School, Okpanam.
Nobea, who advised the children to make judicious use of the uniform and educational materials, urged them to ensure that they take their education serious as future leaders.
She explained that the Club had earlier visited the school to identify indigent children among the pupils.
Earlier, the Head teacher of Umegbali Primary School, Mrs. Edith Owumi lauded the Lion Club for the gesture, describing it as a welcome development.
Mrs. Owumi noted that the Club had made teaching and learning effective, saying that most of the pupils did not have sufficient writing materials before now .
Items distributed included school uniforms, school sandals, sport wears, notebooks, biros and pencils.
