Konyeke Urges Those In Authority To Serve Humanity Rather Than Selves

A Catholic Priest,  Rev. Fr.  John Konyeke, has urged those in positions of authority to make the society better by serving the people rather than themselves and their families.

Fr. Konyeke, a student of Catholic Institute of West Africa (CIWA), made the call on Sunday morning while delivering a Homily at the Catholic Church of the Ascension, Asaba, Delta State.

According to him, it will amount to vanity when those entrusted with positions of authority to serve the people use such to enrich themselves to the detriment of the people they are supposed to serve.

Fr. Konyeke who is preparing to celebrate his 15th year anniversary as a Priest on September 10th, 2022 at St. Felix Catholic Church, Ejeme-Aniogor, Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State, stated that people should not relent in using the positions they find themselves to serve humanity and God.

“What actually do you need to survive in life? Those in authority should stop acquiring wealth, property for themselves and children, what of if those children they sent to study abroad refuse to come back? It amounts to vanity.

“Can you compare the life you lived when Dr. Goodluck Jonathan was President and the life that you are living now?  We should stop the pursuit of wealth, personal possessions at the expense of the general wellbeing of the people,” the Priest said.

He added, “To be selfish is not to have considerations for others; if people can take care of what you have laboured for, good for you, vanity upon vanity equals vanity.

“If you decide to do good, whatever you have should be used for the good of humanity and service of God.

“The growth of the Church will depend on those who worship in the church, otherwise, everything will still be vanity.

“The New Testament is the fulfillment of the Old Testament; Jesus came for us to have life and have life in abundance; He came to redeem us and teach us the way; we have to follow the values of Jesus.”

Rev. Fr. Hilary Ibegbulem who is the Priest in charge of the Parish co-celebrated the Holy Mass with Fr. Konyeke.
