Rt. Rev. Monsignor Stephen Uzomah Okolie, on Tuesday evening, commenced his final journey on earth with a Vigil Mass held in his honour at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Asaba, Delta State.
The Vigil Mass was attended by Bishop of Warri Diocese, Most Rev. Anthony Ewerido, Priests, the religious, members of his family, Catholics and friends.
Delivering a Homily at the Mass, Fr. Simon Njoku, admonished the living to always have the fear of God in whatever that they do.
He observed that Monsignor lived a good life and his reward is in heaven.
According to Fr. Njoku, “Monsignor cherished communal life deeply, he cherished his cassock that he hardly received a visitor without his it.
“He loved the Priesthood; most of us would have wished that he spends more time with us but we must be grateful for the time that he spent with us.
“Life is a mystery and one day, this gift of life will return to its owner, God, the giver of life.
“The soul of a Godly man is in the hands of God, so, we must live a good life by having the fear of God and do good always.
“Jesus told us that Blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted, so, for all of you who mourn, may you be comforted,
“Death is not the end but a new beginning, Monsignor was a successful man through his integrity generosity and hard work; he was a compassionate Priest.
“Monsignor’s spirit lives on and we should always remember him in our prayers.
“May his soul and souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.”
A Funeral Mass will be held in honour of Monsignor Stephen Uzomah on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Issele-Uku from 10 am.
