THE Anglican Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Anambra State, Rt. Rev Ndubuisi Obi has lamented increasing suffering and hardships being faced by Nigerians.

He canvased for the restructuring of the country as the surest way to salvage the situation.

Speaking at Nnewi on Friday, during the 2020 synod of Nnewi Diocese, the Cleric regretted that Nigeria was only working for the elites who were benefitting from her.

Bishop Obi said the singular step of restructuring would stem the tide of killings of Christians in Nigeria and stop other atrocities being witnessed across the country.

The Bishop said, “Nigeria is only working for those who are benefitting from it. It is working for the elites

“The common people are suffering, there is abject poverty in the land despite our touted oil revenue. This is most unacceptable.

“The hydra headed federal government must be dismantled and power should be ceded to the regions. While we have lose, coordinating government at the federal level.

“If we are a federal republic, then the regions must become federating regions and allowed to run their affairs, manage their resources and develop at their place. This is the simplest unambiguous way to put Nigeria on the path of recovery.”

The Bishop also appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to step up effort towards securing the release of Leah Sharibu and other abducted citizens still in captivity.

Bishop Obi urged Nigerians to continue to protect themselves from the dreaded coronavirus, including maintaining good hygiene at all times, avoiding crowded places and praying always.
