Acting Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, has said that it is only the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that will bring Nigeria out of the present economic woes.

The acting governor spoke on Saturday at a political rally organized by Odoziani/Ezinne Support Group to mark its ten years of existence.

According to Onyeme at the well attended event which took place at Onicha-Ukwuani, Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State, PDP is a better option for Nigerians. The acting governor said, “nobody should deceive you that in this present Nigeria that we are today, that there is an alternative to the PDP.

“I can tell you confidently that in this country, with the way that we are today, there is no better option than to follow the PDP; quote me anywhere, there is no better option.

“If you doubt me, go and make your research and show me one All Progressives Congress (APC)-controlled state that is doing better than Delta State.

“Show me one APC-controlled state that has more projects than our state, show me one that has elevated the citizens of their state more than what we have in Delta State.

“In terms of human capital development, we are at the top; what we have done so far in one year and half, the number of people this government has empowered, over a hundred thousand youths in various trades and given them something to start and improve on their trade.

“We are also witnesses to the fact that since we came on board, no project that we inherited has been abandoned, some of the projects that we inherited are still ongoing and a lot of them have been completed.

“New projects are being initiated everyday, there is no Executive Council meeting that we hold that approval will not be given for one road or the other to be constructed or rehabilitated; there is no Exco meeting that we attend that projects that concerns food security is not being approved, projects concerning education are being approved, we approved projects in every Exco meeting and these projects are impacting on the lives of our people.

“I want to assure you that before the end of this first tenure, the results will be very visible everywhere and for those of us that are from Ndokwa where we believe we have not had our fair share in the past, today, I am sure that a lot of you are seeing the difference.

“The ones in my immediate locality – for the first time, if you look at every street, you will see solar light, Onichi-Ukwuani is fully lighted, you can see new roads that has been constructed and other ones that are being cleared for construction, many more projects are coming.

“So, I can tell you, stay with the PDP, believe in PDP and preach PDP, because, the other political party that has held us hostage at the center is not doing well at all, there is hunger everywhere, petrol pump price rose from N87 when PDP was at the center, now we are talking about N1,300 per liter and we don’t know where we are going because tomorrow, it might even go higher.

“With APC in power, it has been stories of woes and woes, so, you can imagine a situation where APC is ruling us at the national and then they come again and rule you at your own State, ‘wetin be that? Na die be that o, complete die, abi una won die?’ (and the people chorused, PDP all the way)

“So, if we don’t want to die, let us continue to support PDP, support the government of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori because that will be in the true spirit of patriotism.”

The acting governor thanked God for sustaining the Odoziani/Ezinne Support Group for ten years and charged its members to bring more members to the PDP.

“This organisation is ten years old, it started sometime in 2014 and since 2014, we have pushed on and on and by the grace of God we are waxing stronger and stronger.

“When we started, there were just few politicians among us who held political offices, we were all commoners, but this commoners had a vision that we need to change the narratives of how politics is played in Ndokwa Nation and in Delta State and through our efforts, we want to change the narrative in Nigeria.

“Today, to the glory of God, we are seeing signs of achievements; if we take stock, we have over thirty political appointees among us and most importantly, the number two citizen of the state is a member of this group, we give God all the glory.

*We have come a long way and I want to assure you that through your efforts we were able to get this far and if you put in more effort, we will do better.

“I know that one day, by his grace a governor will emerge from this group, a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, council chairmen, commissioners will emerge from this group.

“All that we need to do is to keep faith with the future and believe that we can do it, because, when you believe in yourself and what you can do God will make it come to pass.

“If you believe in Odoziani/Ezinne Support Group and you believe in PDP when they ask you to come for your civil responsibility, please come out.

“If 37,000 people come out to speak with one voice, there is no way that they can defeat us, just one pressure group, we are doing it for ourselves, our children and our future.”

Earlier, in a welcome address, the Director General Odoziani/Ezinne Support Group, Hon. Austin Ossai said that the Odoziani/Ezinne Support Group which is a non-religious, non-ethnic or tribal, non-gender and political pressure group galvanises and re-awaken the consciousness of the people to be more politically relevant.

Hon. Orji noted that, Sir Monday Onyeme, who is the founder of the group, has since its inception, given the group profitable guide, hope, encouragement and had remained supportive, which actually made the group to embrace the light and innovative perspectives to work together in unity as a formidable team to achieve its goals.

The carnival-like event was attended by top political office holders in the state.
