A Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. Hilary Ibegbulem, has urged Nigerians to rely in the Holy Spirit for the country to be better.

Delivering a sermon on Sunday morning at the Catholic Church of the Ascension, Asaba, Delta State, Fr. Ibegbulem, observed that with the gift of the Holy Spirit, the country will be better.

He said, “How active are we to the things of the Holy Spirit? How active is the Holy Spirit that we have received in our lives?

“We can only know that the Holy Spirit is manifesting in our lives by our actions – love for one another, ensuring that the people are happy, working for a peaceful nation, goodness, kindness, wisdom, piety, faithfulness, patience, gentleness, self control, and fear of the Lord.

“We need to make the Holy Spirit to be active in our lives again.

“We should work by the spirit rather than the flesh; avoid enmity; we should learn to forgive, avoid jealousy, idolatry, selfishness, drunkenness, anger, immorality, and impurity.”

Fr. Ibegbulem who celebrated the Holy Mass with Rev. Fr. Peter Uchu, of the Catholic Diocese of Jos, stated that the Feast of Pentecost marked the end of Easter celebration and the fulfilment of Jesus promises to His disciples.

“He promised that He was not going to leave them alone; that He will send to them the Holy Spirit; He asked them not to leave Jerusalem or do anything until He sends the Holy Spirit to them.

“Jesus knew that without the Holy Spirit they could not do anything; the Holy Spirit emboldened the disciplines, Christians to preach the word without fear.

“Pentecost Sunday is used to commemorate the day the Holy Spirit descended on the disciples.”

The Holy Mass featured churching of new born babies, special thanksgiving, among others.
