THE Delta State chapter of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, has expressed confidence in the arrangements for the March 6, 2021 local government elections in the state.

The Council, the umbrella group of registered political parties in Delta State, also commended Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, Governor of the state, for his developmental strides.

In a letter to Okowa signed by Mr. Emeka Bidokwu and Mr. Lucky Okorakpa, Chairman and Secretary of the Council respectively, the group expressed “implicit confidence” on the governor for his “managerial ability” and liaison with all political parties irrespective of their different identities and ideologies.

They also commended Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, Senior Political Adviser to the Governor, for initiating measures that engendered a free atmosphere for political parties to express themselves unencumbered.

They said Solomon has ensured that parties in the state are consulted on major political and administrative issues, urging him to continue to strengthen the synergy between the ruling party and other parties in the state.

On the coming March 6 local government election in the state, Bidokwa said the Inter-Party Advisory Council has been liaising with the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DESIEC) on its preparation for the exercise. “We are satisfied with the level of work done so far and we will continue to monitor the process and make recommendations to DESIEC on making the process more credible. So far, they are on the right track”, Bidokwu said.

He said DESIEC’s preparations for the elections hold bright prospects of a free and fair poll.

Elections will be conducted on March 6 to fill the chairmanship seats in the 25 local government areas in Delta State. Counselors will also be elected during the exercise.

Already, primaries have been conducted while all the parties are now campaigning with their candidates.
