Pope Leo XIV joined thousands of vulnerable and marginalized people in the Vatican’s Paul VI Hall on Saturday evening for the sixth edition of the “Concert with the Poor.”

The event, organized by the Dicastery for the Service of Charity in collaboration with the Diocese of Rome and several charitable groups, brought together artists, volunteers, and more than 3,000 guests from diverse backgrounds, languages, and religions.

International singer Michael Bublé performed alongside his band, the Choir of the Diocese of Rome under the direction of Monsignor Marco Frisina, and the Nova Opera Orchestra. Throughout the concert, the Pope could be seen smiling, applauding enthusiastically, and even singing along.

At the end of the event, an initiative originally inspired by Pope Francis, Pope Leo expressed his gratitude for being able to share the moment with the audience.

He emphasized that music is a universal blessing: “The melodies that touched our hearts this evening reminded us that music is not a luxury for the few, but a divine gift available to all, rich and poor alike.”

Addressing the guests of honor, the Pope expressed “special joy” in welcoming each person present. He extended appreciation to the organizers, including Cardinal Baldo Reina and Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, as well as the many organizations that supported the event. He also offered heartfelt thanks to the performers for their talent and dedication.

Reflecting on the spiritual meaning of music, Pope Leo described it as “a bridge that leads us to God.” He said music has the power to stir the deepest emotions and to elevate the human spirit: “It creates an imaginary stairway between earth and heaven.”

Music, he added, does more than ease hardship it reminds us of our true identity as “beloved children of God.”

He also pointed to the close relationship between music and Christmas traditions, noting that cultures around the world use songs to celebrate the mystery of Christ’s birth.

As the Advent season continues, Pope Leo encouraged everyone to keep their hearts free from selfishness and worldly distractions. “Let us stay awake and attentive to others, especially those in need,” he said. “Let us be ready to hear the song of God’s love Jesus Christ. He is God’s song for humanity. Let us listen, learn, and sing it with our lives.”
