Tips On How To Win War Against Insecurity

IN recent times, Nigeria has witnessed an unprecedented plague of crisis and insecurity, each leading to loss of lives and destruction of property.

Those responsible for internal security such as the Police, Armed forces and Paramilitary need to purge themselves of corruption and greed if they actually love this country.

I am saying this because of my experience when I was a member of defunct Niger Delta Militia group, moles within the military system do sell information to us and inform us whenever they have plans to attack us.

So, if we must win the war against insecurity, the security forces need to look inward. We succeeded because we were bound by oath never to divulge information. But, unlike the Nigerian security forces.

Federal Government has completely lost control of the North-East, despite deploying thousands of troops and establishing a Joint Task Force because of corrupt officers whose responsibilities are saddled on their shoulders.

And what’s worrying is that there’s not a whole lot of visible efforts from the federal government to calm things down because the intelligence departments are dwarfed by moles operating within the system.

You can see that Delta State is relatively peaceful because those saddled with the responsibility of managing the state government’s intelligence units are trusted and responsible.

I read that in 2019, Transparency International, placed Nigeria on 146th position out of 198 countries in the Corruption Perception Index with a score of 26 out of 100. Corrupt Nigerian politicians, Security personnel have become a turn off for international investors.”

Corruption has already become a part of life in the country. Unfortunately, it forms part of the economic problems in Nigeria today and solution can only come when we have selfless leaders who will go the extra mile to effect change in different tiers of government.

So, if we love this country and if we want to come out of this plague, we must not because of the taste of soup at the back of spoon, throw away the soup inside the spoon.

The author,  Engr Udoka Emmanuel Mnse , is Senior Special Assistant to the Governor Of Delta State (Security)
