COVID-19 SCARE: Federal College Of Education Shut

THE death of a medical staff of Federal College of Education (FCE), Osiele, Ogun State, has led to the shutting down of the institution.

The staff who worked at the Medical Centre of FCE was said to have died of complications from COVID-19 suspected ailments.

Also, some staff of the Medical Centre have tested positive to COVID-19 which made the Registrar of the College, Dr Adedayo Adebayo, in a statement made available to newsden.com.ng to shut down the college for a period of two weeks.

According to the statement, “The college management at its emergency meeting held today 3rd July, 2020 received with utmost concern the report of the medical investigation carried out on the cause of the observed state of ailment that recently affected some staff of the College Medical Centre.

“The report attributed the cause of death of one of the medical personnel that transited to immortality lately to complications that arose from COVID-19.

“Regrettably, the two other staff of the medical centre similarly tested positive to the viral infection and have been placed on isolation and undergoing treatment.

“Arising from this untoward development, it is incumbent on the college management to immediately close down the college so as to forestall further spread of the virus.

“Consequently, the college management has directed the immediate lockdown of the college activities for the next two weeks. Members of staff with ongoing assignments are encouraged to continue to work on them from home.

“The college management further advises everyone that has had contact with the affected medical personnel recently to subject themselves to the COVID-19 test in order to ascertain their health status and to seek necessary medical intervention.

“The management condoles with the bereaved family and the college community and prays that God grants all the succour to bear the irreparable loss.

“It also prays for the speedy and total recovery of the affected staff and commits all other staff and students of the College into the care and protection of the Almighty as we all stay safe to outlive this trying period.”
