A High Court sitting in Neni, Anambra State, has sentenced Nonso Anunobi to life imprisonment for conspiracy, armed robbery, kidnapping, and attempted murder.
Anunobi was found guilty of violently attacking one Aloysius Obidinma near Ifitedunu in Dunukofia Local Government Area. The victim was ambushed while returning to Onitsha from his hometown.
According to court proceedings, Anunobi and his accomplices brutally assaulted Obidinma, shot him, and forcefully dragged him into their vehicle.
They also stole his car, laptop, phones, and other personal belongings. A ransom demand was later made before the victim was eventually released.
The suspects were apprehended following a Police investigation, which included tracking the victim’s mobile phone.
Delivering judgment in case no. NN/5C/2019, Justice G.C. Anulude of Anambra State High Court 1, Neni, found the defendant guilty based on the evidence presented by the prosecution, led by Assistant Chief State Counsel Fabian Okeke, and the defense counsel’s final submissions.
Despite a plea for leniency, the court sentenced Anunobi to life imprisonment.
The prosecution had earlier reminded the court that armed robbery is ordinarily punishable by death.
