A participant in the ongoing shipbuilding training programme sponsored by Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas has secured employment with an oil servicing company, underscoring the impact of the capacity-building initiative aimed at empowering youths in Delta South Senatorial District.

The beneficiary, Engr. Lucky Ukane, who was previously unemployed, has been offered a position as a Barge Operator with Energy Engenharia System Limited after demonstrating exceptional competence during the training programme.

Ukane’s appointment letter was issued while the training was still ongoing, following an impressive presentation he delivered during one of the technical sessions of the shipbuilding programme.

The development was disclosed by Amb. Roland Ososuakpor, Managing Director of Universal Marine & Logistics Development Company, the firm facilitating the shipbuilding training.

Ososuakpor explained that Ukane’s outstanding performance during the programme caught the attention of representatives of the oil company who were present at the training centre.

According to him, the young engineer’s presentation demonstrated a high level of technical understanding and practical competence in the shipbuilding and marine operations modules being taught.

He said the company’s management was particularly impressed with Ukane’s grasp of the course content and promptly moved to offer him employment as a Barge Operator.

The facilitator described the development as a clear validation of the objectives of the training initiative sponsored by Senator Joel-Onowakpo in partnership with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB).

According to him, the programme was designed to equip participants from Delta South with world-class skills that would position them for opportunities within Nigeria’s oil and gas and maritime sectors.

“This is exactly the kind of success story we envisioned when the training programme began. It shows that with the right skills and exposure, our young people can compete favourably and secure opportunities in the industry,” he said.

Stakeholders have described Ukane’s achievement as an inspiring testimony to the effectiveness of skills acquisition programmes that emphasize practical and professional training.

Observers also commended Senator Joel-Onowakpo for investing in human capital development across Delta South Senatorial District, noting that initiatives such as the shipbuilding training can create sustainable employment opportunities for youths in the region.

They urged participants currently undergoing the training to take the programme seriously and maximize the opportunity to acquire industry-relevant skills that can open doors to career advancement in the oil and gas sector.

Ukane’s success, they said, should serve as motivation for other trainees to remain committed and diligent as they prepare themselves for similar opportunities within the industry.
