THE Priest in charge of Catholic Church of the Ascension, Asaba, Delta State, Rev. Fr. Hilary Ibegbulem, has urged Christians not to be afraid of seeking the mercy of God.
Fr. Ibegbulem noted that God is merciful and will always grant mercy to those who genuinely and humbly ask for His mercy.
The Catholic Priest made the call on Sunday morning while delivering a homily at the Catholic Church of the Ascension, Asaba.
He also, called on Christians to be merciful to others to enable them enjoy the mercy of God making reference to the Lord’s prayer, “Forgive our sins as we forgive those who have sinned against us.
“Today is Divine Mercy Sunday; it is the end to the Divine Mercy Novena which started on Good Friday.
“This celebration offers us another opportunity to reflect on God’s mercy and positions us to possess God’s mercy so that we will not be like those who suffer lack in the midst of plenty.
“God’s mercy is a free gift
“God is merciful; God’s nature is mercy
“We are alive today because of the mercy of God and God expects us to come back to Him as can be seen from the parable of the prodigal son.
“God shows us mercy when we approach Him in the sacrament of confession; His mercy is not for us to continue to live in sin; His mercy is for us to avoid sin.
“It is not the will of God that anyone should perish; we should ask for mercy by first of all acknowledging our sin and ask for forgiveness; we should not be giving reasons for indulging in sin.
“We should ask God with humility, the forgiveness of our sin and we will receive forgiveness.
“We should be merciful to others; if we are merciful to others, we will receive God’s mercy.
“Mercy makes forgiveness possible; anyone who is not merciful will find it difficult to forgive.
“Let us be merciful so that God will show us mercy.
“Jesus offered peace, mercy and forgiveness and God is telling us to live in peace.”
