The Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Thursday said that beyond spiritual guidance, the church is an economic driver capable of job creation and infrastructure support.
He made the observation while speaking at the 2026 Leadership and Prayer Summit cum Dedication of an Ultra-Modern Eatery of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Delta State Chapter, at PFN City, Orhokokpor-Agbarho.
Oborevwori who was represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, Ph.D., said, “the Church is not only a place of worship and spiritual nourishment; it is also a partner in community development and human advancement.
”This facility (PFN Eatery) will support the activities of the PFN, create opportunities for employment and enterprise, and provide quality services to members of the Church and visitors to PFN City.
”I commend the leadership of the PFN, Delta State Chapter, for this laudable investment.
”The coming together of prayer, leadership, and development is particularly significant; it reminds us that while vision and purposeful action are essential to progress, we also need wisdom, discipline, and the grace of God.
”As the Bible says in Psalm 127:1, ‘Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labour in vain.’
“This is a timely reminder that while we must plan, work, and provide leadership, we must always acknowledge God as the source of wisdom and the one who gives lasting success to our efforts.
”As a government, we recognise leadership as a sacred responsibility; we can make plans and deploy resources, but it is God who gives us the wisdom, direction, and peace to achieve lasting results.
”We appreciate the prayers and support of the Christian community, which continue to contribute to the peace and development of Delta State.
”The focus on leadership, prayer, and development at this summit resonates with the philosophy of our MORE Agenda, which places our people, development, opportunities, and peace at the centre of governance.
”We will continue to provide the infrastructure, security, and enabling environment required for our people, businesses, and institutions to thrive.
”The dedication of this facility is a testimony to what faith, vision, and purposeful leadership can achieve.
”Let me assure you that the Delta State Government will continue to support an environment in which faith-based organisations, businesses, and other institutions can contribute to the growth and prosperity of our State.
”We will sustain our investments in infrastructure, human capital development, security, and inclusive economic opportunities across the 25 Local Government Areas of our state.
”I urge the Church to remain steadfast in prayer for Delta State and Nigeria.
”At a time like this, our nation needs leaders who will serve with integrity and humility and place the common good above personal interest.”
The immediate past Governor of Delta State, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, CON, at the occasion, thanked the Church for contributing immensely to the peace, unity, and development of the country, with an emphasis on Delta State.
Archbishop Dr. Emma Gospel Isong, National Vice-President of PFN South-South zone, in a sermon, stated that there is power in unity.
He said, “Beloved brethren, I want to draw our attention to the power of unity; when the people are united and have a common purpose, there is very little that they cannot accomplish.”
Sen. David Dafinone, Rev. Francis Waive, and others who spoke at the occasion also thanked God for His blessings upon Delta State.
Prayers were offered for all the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to emerge victorious in the 2027 general elections.
