The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, Ph.D., on Thursday joined several dignitaries and sympathizers at the Vigil Mass held in honor of the late Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.
Sir Onyeme, who arrived in Bayelsa accompanied by high-ranking officials of the Delta State Government, expressed his solidarity with his colleague and the people of Bayelsa during this period of grief.
This visit follows a previous condolence visit where Sir Onyeme traveled to Yenagoa as part of the Forum of Deputy Governors of Nigeria to console the Governor of Bayelsa State, Governor Douye Diri and the family of the late Deputy Governor.
Governor Diri was also in attendance at the Vigil Mass, which was held at St . Patrick Catholic Church, Yenogoa.
Delivering a Homily at the Vigil Mass which had the Catholic Bishop of Uromi, Most Rev. Dr. Donatus Aihmiosion Ogun, as Chief Celebrant, Rev. Fr. Anthony Suoware, admonished Christians to live lives of purpose and devotion, reminding them that, “the legacy of a man is not measured by his earthly possessions, but by his faith and the impact he leaves on the lives of others.
“The death of anyone is a reminder that all of us must die, you die because it is time for you to do so,, so, everybody must prepare himself because death can come at any time.
“Live so well, so that when you die, the preacher will not tell lies.
“We are justified by faith
To become righteous is God’s gift through faith
“The late Deputy Governor was a humble man, he was a gentle and a great man who brought his faith to bare in his public and private life.”
Bishop Hyacinth Oroko Egbebo of the Catholic Diocese of Bomadi and an array of Priests including Rev. Fr. John Konyeke of the Catholic Diocese of Issele-Uku attended the Vigil Mass.
Renowned politicians from different parts of the country attended the Vigil Mass.
