Edoge, Kogos Proffer Ways Of Preserving African Culture At Maris Schools’ Cultural Day

The President, Executive Committee of Friends (EXCOF), Elder Sunday Edoge and author of the highly acknowledged sociocultural book, “EKENE BU NWAEZIMMADU”, Mr. Anthony Nkete Nwakogo, on Friday, listed ways of preserving African culture.

They spoke at this year’s edition of Cultural Day of Maris Schools, Amachai, Okpanam in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State.

Elder Edoge, who was Chairman of Occasion, stated that Africans are blessed with rich cultural heritage that must be preserved.

According to him, Africans should be proud of their culture and commended the Management of Maris Schools for ensuring proper education of the children by encouraging the students and pupils of the school to appreciate African culture in a conducive learning environment.

“From the reception that we received on arrival, the serene atmosphere, there is no doubt that Maris Schools is doing so much to ensure proper education of children.

“We should be proud of our culture and events like this Cultural Day in years to come, will remain in the memories of the participants, letting them know the need to value and preserve our culture, a very rich culture,” Elder Edoge said.

In a brief lecture on how to preserve African culture, Nwakogo listed ways of preserving African culture to include language, mode of dressing, cuisine, greetings, festivals, attending traditional ceremonies in the communities, among several others.

He expressed joy with the display of culture through dance, cuisine, mode of dressing, explanation of culture of different ethnic groups, among others by students and pupils of Maris Schools and urged management of the school to include the study of at least, one African language as a subject to be studied from kindergarten classes to secondary school levels.

Mr Femi Yusuf, a student of the school had set the ball rolling with a welcome address where he told parents and guests who came to witness the Cultural Day that it was to promote African culture, an annual socio-cultural event of Maris Schools, Amachai, Okpanam.

Highpoint of the event was the presentation of awards to the best presented African food, best dressed cultural representation, among others.

Some of the parents who witnessed the event said that it was action-packed which events of Maris Schools are known for.

Maris Schools was established in July 25, 2018 and has Nursery, Primary and Secondary Schools.
