The Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has warned against limiting empowerment programmes to certain individuals, families or communities.

He gave the warning on Saturday at Kwale during the distribution of empowerment materials by the member representing Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi to beneficiaries.

According to the governor, empowerment materials should be spread among the people and those who have benefitted previously in such programmes should allow others to benefit from such progammes, noting that democratic dividends should be enjoyed by everybody.

“I wish to state that empowerment progammes should be well spread, the beneficiaries should not be limited to certain individuals or families, it should be such that everybody must have a sense of belonging and benefit from the dividends of democracy,” the governor who was represented at the occasion by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA said.

He disclosed that his administration has embarked on several empowerment progammes that are impacting positively on the lives of Deltans and expressed joy that Deltans have welcomed such programmes as theirs.

“As a government, I can say that we have also embarked on several empowerment programmes through the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Girl Child Development, the Job Creation Office, among others, and it is a thing of joy that Deltans have keyed into the progammes and have accepted them as theirs.

“No doubt, through the MORE Agenda, we are providing opportunities for all Deltans to harness their potentials positively for the growth of our state and humanity.

“I urge the beneficiaries of this empowerment programme to make judicious use of the items which range from tricycles to materials for those who are engaged in barbing, hairdressing, tailoring, among others. You must not sell the items but put them to good use, with the aim of expanding your businesses and, in the long run, become great employers of labour and entrepreneurs,” he added.

Oborevwori at the occasion, commended Hon. Ezechi for not losing sight of his legislative duties at the National Assembly and also, remain in touch with his people through different programmes.

Earlier, Hon. Ezechi had said that the programme was in line with the M.O.R.E. Agenda of Governor Oboorevwori’s administration and listed some of his activities at the National Assembly.

Some dignitaries who spoke at the occasion include the Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ndokwa West Ogbuefi Lucky Okuji, nember, Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Prince Emeka Osamuta, and Commissioner, Urban Renewal, Engr. Michael Anoka.

Other personalities present include Hon. Aneke Ifemeni, and Chief Sunny Okia, President General Abala clan.
