A socio-cultural organisation, Cable Point Community Development Association (CPCDA), has emerged in Asaba, Delta State.

According to him, at a time, Cable was the nerve center of trade and commerce in Asaba but owing to neglect by successive governments in the defunt Bendel State and Delta State the area has turned to almost a slum with no motorable inner roads.

“In this association, we will carry people of likeminds along to ensure that Cable Point is repositioned and rebuilt.

“It is not about political ideology but, the need for the founding fathers of Cable Point to know that Cable Point can still take its pride of place in the capital city.

“But, for the dual carriageway and few other roads that were constructed by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration, one can only imagine what would have been the fate of our people.

“Cable Point has a rich history, dating back to the days of Royal Niger Company, it was the gateway to the East and we should develop the area.

“The foundation for its development was laid more than a century ago, so, all that we have to do is remind those in authority to do the right thing for the people,” Mazi Osadebay said.

Also speaking, one of the Coordinators of CPCDA, Hon. Anthony Onyia said, “we thank God that we are uniting ourselves to develop Cable Point.

“I can still recall that Cable Point was the township of Asaba, playing host to nightclubs including the Tonylinks Club and the Asaba Lighthouse.

“The aim of this association is noble as it goes beyond empowering the people of Cable Point to repositioning the area as the first commercial nerve center of Asaba.”

Others who spoke at the meeting include, Mrs Philo Okafor, Hon. Chugabby Onwuka, Sir Anthony Chukwu, who expressed confidence that members of the group has the necessary contacts to address the developmental challenges of the community.
