Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the Governor of Delta State, has paid a glowing tribute to his late Senior Special Assistant on Protocol, Mr. Sunday Kpikpi Kotor (fondly known as Ilewheri), describing his passing as a profound and painful loss to the state and the current administration.
Speaking on Monday during a solemn Day of Tributes held in honour of the deceased at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, Governor Oborevwori celebrated Mr. Kotor’s life of dedicated public service, humility, and unwavering commitment to excellence.
The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, Ph.D, represented Governor Oborevwori at the event.
Mr. Kotor passed away on March 20, 2026, at the age of 63.
”Sunday was a dedicated public servant, a loyal aide, and a dependable person whose presence enriched every assignment he handled.
“As Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Protocol, he served with discipline, humility, and remarkable attention to detail.
“His passing is a painful loss to his family, this administration, and all who worked closely with him; he ensured order and dignity in official engagements and discharged his duties with quiet excellence and unwavering commitment.
“He was a gifted Master of Ceremonies whose voice and presence became familiar at government functions across the State.
“With eloquence and warmth, he brought life to formal occasions and made every event memorable.
“What defined him most was his character: respectful, consistent, and deeply reliable; he related easily with people and carried himself with a humility that earned him trust and affection in equal measure.
“He was not only an aide but a true team player among his colleagues.
“As a son of Okwagbe-Waterside, he remained proud of his roots and represented his community with dignity; his life reflected service, integrity, and commitment to excellence.
“To his wife, children, and the entire Kotor family, I extend my heartfelt condolences. May God grant you strength in this painful time and comfort you with the legacy he leaves behind and the many lives he touched.
‘On behalf of the Government and people of Delta State, I express deep appreciation for his service; his contributions to this administration will not be forgotten.
“As we bid him farewell, let us remember not only the sadness of his departure but the value of his life and the excellence of his service.
“He has completed his journey; he has done his part; may his gentle soul rest in perfect peace,” Governor Oborevwori said.
Delta State Director of Protocol, Olorogun Sunday Onoriode, said, “Mr Kotor served with exceptional dedication and commitment; he was more than a colleague; he was a dependable partner, a consummate professional, and a trusted friend.”
Hon. Charles Emetulu, member of the Delta State House of Assembly, in a tribute described the deceased as “a craftsman of words, a gifted compere, Master of Ceremony, orator, and panegyrist of rare distinction; with poise and eloquence, he could command a hall, celebrate a life, inspire a crowd, or calm a storm.”
Some of those who delivered tributes at the event include the Deputy Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo, and Hon. Festus Utuama of the Delta State House of Assembly, Prof. Godwin Darah, Mr Paul Oyeye, Hon. Reuben Izeze, Barr. Emmanuel Pipah, among others.
They all attested to the good life that Mr Kotor lived.
