Delta State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, Ph.D., has said that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is empowering people at the grassroots through the councillors in the various wards across the 25 local government areas of the state.
He decried situations in which empowerment meant for those at the grassroots does not get to them, asserting, “such is not in this government.”
Sir Onyeme, who spoke on Saturday at the Utagba-Ogbe Ward 1 Councillor empowerment programme in Ndokwa West Local Government Area, tagged “Reaching Out To The Grassroots”, said that the governor is involving everyone and is starting with the councillors to go and empower their people in their various wards.
According to him, “the empowerment to the grassroots will continue from the councillors to the highest level; it will involve all elected political office holders.”
The Deputy Governor urged the people to continue to support President Bola Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a party.
According to him, “this is a good government; there is no local government in the state where one project or another is not going on.
‘Various empowerment programmes are ongoing, so we need to support the APC as a party at all levels and vote for all its candidates in the coming general election.
”Follow who know road, because they will show you and lead you to the right way, it is APC.’
Sir Onyeme noted that when the people support President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori, “we will continue to experience more development in our communities, local government areas, and state.”
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of Ndokwa West Local Government Council, Chief Obi Nzete, described the initiative as the first time in political history that there has been reform regarding the empowerment of the people.
He stated that Governor Oborevwori, with the support of President Tinubu and the APC as a party, had decided to touch lives down to the grassroots by using the councillors in the wards.
”So, we are here to appreciate and empower both men and women in the ward to add to their businesses,” Nzete said.
He added, “today, we are in Ward 1, Utagba-Ogbe in Ndokwa West, and that is how we will go round all the wards in the local government.
”What is happening here today is what will happen to all the wards in the 25 local governments of Delta State.
”No government has ever had it like this, so we need to support the APC, President Tinubu, Governor Oborevwori, and all APC candidates.
”It is a good thing that the government and the APC are doing for the people.”
In his welcome address, the Councillor representing Ward 1, Utagba-Ogbe, Hon. Jude Osakwuni Uti, expressed appreciation to the State Governor, his Deputy, and the Chairman of Ndokwa West for the privilege given to him to serve the people at the ward level.
He noted that this was the first time an empowerment programme of its nature was happening, and that it was happening during his tenure as councillor representing the ward.
He said that 200 persons would receive ₦50,000 each, and appealed to those who did not benefit from this phase to be patient, noting that everyone would eventually get a turn.
