The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, Ph.D., has said that constructive engagement and active participation in government remain the most effective avenues for driving community development and delivering meaningful progress to the people.
Speaking during a meeting with Leaders of Emu-Ebendo Community in his office in Asaba, Deputy Governor Onyeme cautioned against the belief that remaining in opposition is the best route to securing developmental benefits for the populace.
Emphasizing the need for collaboration across political and social lines, Sir Monday Onyeme stated, “those who think that being in opposition is the best way to get things done, that is not true; you get things done by being involved, cooperate with people in government.”
The Deputy Governor thanked the people of Emu-Ebendo for resolving the shun antagonism against government, noting that, “it is heartwarming to hear that the people of Emu-Ebendo are supporting us, the Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration 100 percent.
“I thank you for the support and the way you intervened in a matter concerning one of your children, John-Paul, it shows that an individual cannot be bigger than a community.
“Democracy thrives when citizens and political figures actively partner with the administration in power rather than maintaining perpetual antagonism.”
He highlighted that the Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori-led administration is running an inclusive government driven by the MORE Agenda which welcomes contributions from all well-meaning Deltans.
Sir Onyeme urged leaders at all levels to foster unity, support ongoing government policies, and channel their energy into grassroots mobilization and collaborative initiatives that directly impact the lives of the electorate.
He also, reaffirmed the commitment of the Delta State Government to delivering socio-economic growth, and infrastructure development, disclosing that government has awarded the construction of the Emu-Ebendo/ Emu-Iyasele/Ashaka road for more than N8 Billion.
The people of Emu-Ebendo through their spokesperson, Chief Josiah Agbanashi had said that it was “a thanksgiving visit because the Deputy Governor is compassionate and listens to the voice of the people.
“This is Emu-Ebendo Community, we are here to thank you because when one of our boys, John-Paul misbehaved, we appealed to you to intervene and you listened to our appeal.
“We are solidly behind you politically a whoever you support is the person, persons or political party that Emu-Ebendo will throw its weight behind; we are grateful to you for facilitating the approval of the construction of Emu-Ebendo/Emu-Iyasele/Ashaka road; we are also here to through you, thank the government of Delta State for what it is doing for the Federal University of Medical and Health Science, Kwale, thank you.”
The Deputy Chief of Staff, Government House, Sir Christopher Osakwe was present at the meeting.
