Christians have been called upon to live purposeful lives, touch souls, and continuously reflect on their ultimate end, as life remains a divine gift from God.
This admonition was given by Rev. Fr Austin Nwaefiene during his Homily at the Vigil Mass held in honor of Lady Elizabeth Egbuiwe at St. Joseph’s Pro-Cathedral, Asaba, on Thursday.
Lady Egbuiwe, a respected member of the Knights of St. John International (KSJI), passed away at the age of 73.
Reflecting on the inevitability of mortality, Fr. Nwaefiene challenged the congregation to frequently ask themselves one fundamental question: “How will my end be?
”Every day of our lives, we should have that question at the back of our minds: how will my end be?
“The life we are living is a gift from God, what you and I do with it is our gift back to God.
“God has made everything well, and while death is inevitable and will come when it will, we must always be prepared.”
The Priest emphasized that since no one has a guarantee of tomorrow, Christians must use their time, gifts, and talents wisely in service to God and humanity.
He urged everyone to conduct daily self-examinations, noting that while it is possible to deceive the world, no one can deceive themselves or God.
”There is no reason why you should not make eternal life.
“Live a good life, give an account of your life daily, and touch souls,” he said
The Vigil Mass brought together family members, friends, and fellow members of the Knights of St. John International to pay their last respects and pray for the repose of the soul of Lady Elizabeth Egbuiwe, whose life was celebrated as a testament to faith and devotion.
There will be a Requiem Mass on Friday, July 31, 2026 at St. Joseph Pro-Cathedral, Asaba at 10 am.
